Mission Statement

The Foundation for Research in Gastroenterology and Hepatology supports research and scientific progress in the area of gastrointestinal and hepatologic diseases in order to provide information and humanitarian services to individuals who are suffering from digestive diseases around the world.

To fulfill its mission the foundation raises and manages contributions from charitable foundations, the pharmaceutical industry and from other sources. Grants are made directly to researchers seaking to resolve the challenging medical problems of gastroenterological and hepatological diseases.
The Foundation for Research in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and its founding members and volunteers are committed to maximum efficiency and to channel more than 95% of all its funds into the direct support of research and humanitarian aid. To achieve this we rely heavily on the invaluable donations of time, energy and financial support of the many friends and interested parties who have been touched by the suffering of so many people. Research grant proposals from a wide variety of researches mostly within the University of Zurich are solicited. Several research projects, especially in the field of inflammatory bowel disease, colon and gastric cancer and gastrointestinal motility disorders have been founded.

The foundation promotes research in digestive health especially at the University Hospital of Zurich through the financial support of research in the cause, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases. The foundation is a non-profit organisation and has no commercial interests. It fulfills its mission by supporting and organizing conventions and symposia, the funding of research publications and the support of research projects in the area of gastroenterology and hepatology. The foundation is independent of any other organisations, societies and the pharmaceutical and technological industry.
