Our research aims at improving the quality of life and therpeutic options of our patients affected by gastrointestinal diseases. We focus on projects elucidating the role of the innate and acquired immune system in the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases and colorectal carcinoma.
To this end, we seek to improve our understanding of the complex relationships between genetic predisposition, intestinal bacteria and uncontrolled immune responses.
In our tranlsational approach with collaborating academic and industrial reseach partners, we address these questions using molecular biology methods on human-derived cellular models, in animal studies and clinical trials.
